Early in the morning or later in the day are the most favorable time to go outside and 'breathe in' the sun. It is during these hours that the sun is not yet at its full force but still offers us the gift of Vitamin D.
Anytime I am creating a protocol for bone health, I always list the sun as a pivotal part of the healing and renewal process; the same for mood imbalances.
The most profound healing is not found in a pill or a capsule; it is found in nature. You would be surprised how much sun there is in Winter, too. By running outside all year round, I am always oxygenating my lungs, and by running during the warmest hours of Winter, I get the Winter sun; different than Summer sun but powerful in its own right. The Winter sun is what kept my mood elevated through the cold and snowy weather. I would smile at the sun and she would smile back at me. If Spring is when you come out of hibernation, now is your time! Go out in the morning for a walk and feel the warmth of the early morning sun. If you live near the beach or ocean, let your walk steer you in that direction. Being by the water's edge is a great way to detoxify. Allow for the ocean, just by walking beside it, to pull out the toxins with every exhale your breathe. Breathe in the gifts of the ocean floor. Did you know that these days, all the highest minerals are now in the ocean beds? If you've never caught a sunrise, try it and see what the experience is like for you. I often catch them while running in the late Spring or Summer. My favorite most recent sunsrise was in Nantucket over last Labor Day, meeting one of my oldest and dearest friends at Siasconset Beach for a morning sunrise and deep conversation, as only she and I know how to have it. I got there first, and only a couple of others were sitting on the beach. It was a very unusual time of year and month, as behind me was a full moon still up in the sky and before me the birth of a new sun; it brought tears to my eyes and gratitude to my soul. When Jessica joined me, we were in instant exhiliration and awe; the profound connection of our years' old friendship and love of Nantucket, along with the many times we had sat on a beach together and told each other our secrets, continued to solidify our deep bond; this morning was one more time...
Please write in and tell me about your best "sun salutation."
